Freedom
May 5th is the official Liberation Day celebrated throughout the Netherlands, even though for many of it’s subjects, WWII did not end on May 5th 1945. And even though WWII officially came to an end on August 15th, many were to suffer yet many more years before they could start to live life in freedom. However, in their spirits many maintaind captives of the years they had to endure hardship. And this spiritual captivity continued despite all human efforts to forget and to “move on”.
True Liberation can and will only be effected through God’s provision by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord. He has been anointed to set captives (truly) free.
John 8:31-32 (NLT)
Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:36 (NIV)
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
Isaiah 61:1 (NLT)
Good News for the Oppressed
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is upon me,
for the LORD has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted
and to proclaim that captives will be released
and prisoners will be freed.
Luke 4:18-19 (NLT)
“The Spirit of the LORD is upon me,
for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released,
that the blind will see,
that the oppressed will be set free,
and that the time of the LORD’s favor has come.”
